Postpartum Care for Vaginal and Caesarean Deliveries
The postpartum period immediately following childbirth is every bit as important to us as was your pregnancy care. You will continue to see the obstetrician for several weeks (or months, depending on your situation) following your delivery. During that time, we are available to you as always to answer any additional questions or address any concerns you have as a new mother.
Postpartum exams
If you had a normal, healthy vaginal delivery, your initial postpartum exam visit will be 4 to 6 weeks after your delivery. During this visit, we invite you to share your concerns about how you are feeling — both physically and emotionally. Your doctor will also discuss family planning options if needed.
For women who have had a healthy Caesarean delivery, the doctor will want to see you one to two weeks after delivery and again at 4 to 6 weeks to monitor your progress.
Of course, we are happy to schedule any interim visits you deem necessary to address any issues that arise. Your health, physical well-being, and emotional comfort are our prime concerns.
Presuming you enjoy continuing good health following your postpartum checkups, we generally recommend you return 3-4 months following your delivery to resume your routine wellness care.
