Prenatal Care

The Importance of Prenatal Care for Mother and Child

Along with well-rounded nutrition and exercise, high-quality prenatal care is essential to ensuring your pregnancy proceeds as smoothly as possible throughout each trimester.

At our practice, your obstetrician will run blood tests and/or urine tests to check for various antibodies and antigens, genetic markers, and screen for existing conditions or diseases that could lead to serious health issues or problems for the mother or the fetus. Throughout your pregnancy, your obstetrician will perform pelvic exams, occasional blood tests or urine tests to check for potentially dangerous conditions such as pre-eclampsia or hyperglycemia, and in many cases, ultrasound. We also perform fetal checkups to monitor you and your baby for certain developmental milestones and fetal growth throughout the three trimesters.

During your office visits, we might suggest vitamin and mineral supplements for optimal bone health and overall well-being and will discuss your lifestyle and how that affects your pregnancy. We will explain the changes going on in your body, the development of the fetus, and answer any questions you have about symptoms you are experiencing or what to expect in the trimester ahead. We will look for warning signs of potential trouble ahead. And, most importantly, we will guide you through the remarkable journey that starts with your pregnancy and ends with the birth of your child.
